Caveat Emptor

Software livre, mas nem tanto:

The Free Software Foundation is reviewing Novell Inc.’s right to sell new versions of Linux operating system software after the open-source community criticized Novell for teaming up with Microsoft Corp. (…) The foundation controls intellectual property rights to key parts of the open-source Linux operating system.

Moglen said the board has not made a decision on the matter but that he expects it to announce a ruling within two weeks. If the foundation decides to take action, the ban would apply to new versions of Linux covered under a licensing agreement due to take effect in March.

Vejam bem que ninguém está acusando a Novell de ter infringido a licença do Linux, GPL ou o raio que o parta, estão apenas querendo tomar uma atitude preventiva contra a empresa por ter feito um acordo que a “comunidade” não gostou. Ou seja, o software é livre até a hora que seus donos não gostarem da maneira com que outros estão jogando, ponto em que irão ameaçar usar seus direitos autorais para botar a bola embaixo do braço e ir jogar em outra vizinhança.
